How often do you think about Eulalie's death being one of the longest and most painful, but at the same time she couldn't prioritize her own feelings — she knew she was going to die, but she had no right to be scared, or angry, or even show at least some negative emotions quite natural in such a situation, because there were children with her, and she was responsible for them, she was the eldest, and she couldn't let them down, because if she gave up, who would support them, who would calm them down, who would protect them???

She was right. She always is. The night sky feels the same as it did back then. Back when he and Bucky would sneak out to some empty field and lay in the grass staring up at it, wondering what their lives were going to look like. Dreaming about a future they didn't know they'd never see. He can't stop staring at them.
Sharon's a godsend, giving him something warm to ease his aching heart. It loosens the chokehold memories have over it just enough so he can breathe. He smiles his thanks, not yet ready to test vocalization until her lips press against his knuckles. Even rough as they are he can feel their softness, rose petals that form around the hill of bone beneath his skin. He sets his tea aside to turn his hands to her face. Framing her delicate jawline against his palms.
"I love you..." Is all he manages. Her soulful honeyed eyes wide with worry, soft edges melting into fear. He hates that she's seen him like this. Broken and struggling to survive the reminder that he made it out of 1945 alone. Bucky deserved to see the future he loved before he ever saw it conceptualized. He should be here. He should have met Sharon.
You'd have loved him too, Sharon. A better man than me.
She can't. No one can. So it's up to him to keep his legacy safe.
He leans forward to press a soft kiss to her lips and he can taste the tears at the back of his throat. No more, he hates seeing her like this. Steve knows she feels helpless, desperate, he's triggered that desire to comfort in her and he feels guilty for it. To be fair, he thought he'd buried the pain deep. Not deep enough he supposes.
It feels wrong her being on her knees in front of him so he tugs gently at her hand, pulls her into his lap so he can bury his face in her neck and just........breathe.
"I'm alright, promise." He will be because he has to. No one else can take his place, do what he does. He can't waste this. The world's not what he thought it'd be in the future, there are things he has to fix.
"I wanna keep one thing."
The photograph.

youxmove:
He has an inkling. The smallest reel playing in his head of her meandering around his tent, returning to the states to watch them paw over his old things. A hero, they proclaimed, should be memorialized. She knew what to save from prying eyes. Things too personal to let loose into the public. She always had the good sense to present what she wanted the world to see and hide the things meant just for the self.
Her pragmaticism makes him smile.
Sharon sifts through the box and Steve’s hanging over her shoulder, more curious than he should be considering Peggy had offered him the same privacy but here he is watching old photographs in time stained frames being plucked out and tucked aside and he knows Sharon will re-frame them into something modern. Restored but kept the exact same. There’s Peggy with the Colonel, that one’s the president, the vice, here she is-
There’s an envelope in Sharon’s hands and he has half a mind to step away and let her read it alone. Whatever it contains shouldn’t be his business but he can’t move. Barnes. Winnifred Barnes. Winnie, George had called her. She’d loved him like her own, took him under her wing when he lost his mother. It pulls a little harder at his heart strings than he expects and he has to swallow hard to breathe around that lump in his throat.
Please, Agent Carter. Whatever you do, don’t let them forget my boy.
Steve takes a half step back, sucks in a quiet breath and shudders around the aching rise of a sob. He hadn’t thought about her in years, burying that guilt with his shame under eight feet of responsibility. This job, the next, the one after. He couldn’t stop or they’d catch up and ghosts don’t sleep.
He recognizes even at a distance the patches, the spare medals for when the threads fray at the edges of the ones on his uniform, the old mitt he used to toss the ball back and forth, the dog tags ordered to replace the ones never recovered after-
Steve wonders morbidly if they’d ever tried to recover his remains. The file says unable to, he thinks it’s a load of shit. Part of him hopes they never do, he can still delude himself into believing Bucky was out there living his life. No memory means no home to return to, someone had to have taken him in. 32557038 glitters under his name.
He’s focused on the way they shine as if someone took especially good care of them, never worn, never touched. Kept safe away for the day they opened the exhibit and his chest feels like its caving in. Bucky’s would’ve swelled in pride. Look at me, Steve. In a museum! I made the books!
You sure did, Buck.
You changed the world.
It’s the picture that opens the floodgate. The smile on their faces, rain a blur in the background but they’re crystal clear. Bucky’s eyes- those eyes. Piercing and beautiful and as fickle as the sky itself. The way they darken in his anger, turn as bright as a cloudless sky in his joy, grey and gloomy as a stormy sea when he missed home…
He doesn’t realize how wet his cheeks have become until her arms are around him and the warmth of her comfort breaks through the rest of the wall. He holds her as tight as he dares, face buried in golden hair until he can’t breathe. He doesn’t want to, it hurts.
His memories aren’t sad. They’re moving images, events, sensations. He returns to them nightly to visit old friends and re-do mistakes and find some form of closure he knows he’ll never get in the real world. It moves fast, faster every day, and he feels swept up in the moment he never has a chance to think. In his memories he can take his time, dream up stories and conversations he’s never had, talk it out.
The picture doesn’t move. It sits there and stays the same and those expressions never waver. He doesn’t get to reach out and touch Bucky’s shoulder, put down that sketchbook to take the man in his arms and hold him close and apologize. That was reality. In that tiny little square filled with silver halide. A moment in time etched into its atoms forever. Still. Just like-
Steve’s hand slips into her hair, cradles the back of her head and he noses his way to her neck to smell the sweet perfume. It helps more than he could ever explain and his shaking breaths slow to an uneven beat.
“It’s…okay- I…” How to even begin? The way he feels gutted and relieved and wants to be buried in the snow next to him but here with her? Would she even understand? Comprehend the depths of that despair and that joy?
Those tears. She’d seen them before. It’s a rare sight, very rare, and the tears never made it past his eyes. They never rolled down his cheeks. He’d never cried in front of her- not like this. And honestly it’s equally terrifying and heartbreaking.
She pushes the photograph back before her arms engulf him, trying to ease the sobs, trying to calm his mind. She holds him tight, softly rubbing the back of his neck with her thumb while she keeps him close. Her head leans against his as his face buries against her neck, turning to kiss his temple while her free hand rubs his back.
After a few moments Sharon steps back, hands now coming to his cheeks to gently wipe away his tears. “Hey…Hey…I know….I know you miss him.” She leans in, softly kissing his cheek before letting him go to run to the sink. “H-Here. Let me get you some tea. Go to the deck, okay? Let’s go look at the stars. It’s nice out.”
It doesn’t take long for her to fill two mugs full of warm tea then pads throughout the house and to the back deck, handing Steve the mug then kisses his temple again. “….you okay? Steve?” She kneels in front of him now, taking his hands, kissing over his knuckles. “….It’s okay…it’s okay to miss him- it’s okay….” A few more kisses are given. “I’ll get the stuff out of here- get it where she wanted it.” One more kiss comes. “….Do you want to talk about it?”

What if the Sacred Orb survived and was the most doomed girl to ever live... long-ish OC lore under the cut
In my AU, the Battle of the Burning is pushed back a little bit, so Kludd gets to be an alive dad to both the Sacred Orb and Coryn for a while. Don't worry he still dies
I've named my Sacred Orb OC Guinevere as a nod to Kludd and Nyra's Lancelot/Guinevere-ness (bonus points because the root for "Guin" means "white"). She goes by Gwen in daily life, though Nyra likes to use her full name.
Gwen is Kludd's mini-me, right down to her appearance. When Gwen is still very young, she's closer to her mother, but as she gets older and her parents tell her about their plans and her role as heir, her father becomes her entire world.
(As far as Kludd's parenting goes, I can't imagine he likes babies at all so he's in distant father mode until Gwen starts actually having a personality, at which point he's like "Wait. This thing (my child) worships me and I get to tell it what to do and mold it into whatever I want? Sick this rules")
Gwen's worldview and sense of self are entirely built upon the idea that she is not only superior to all non-Tyto owls but also superior to everyone--she hatched from the Sacred Orb, she is the most Pure, she is the perfect heir who will inherit her father's kingdom.
The first crack in this view is the birth of Coryn (who's still Nyroc at this point). Nyra starts paying more attention to Coryn because he's born on the eclipse, which irks Gwen. She's the one who hatched from the Sacred Orb; who cares about some moon magic?
Gwen develops a complex about not being an eclipse baby and takes it out on her little brother, but otherwise ignores him. She thinks he's weird in classic mean big sister fashion. They are not close.
Before Kludd dies, Gwen is unshakably confident; she is, after all, the perfect heir, a great fighter, a Tyto Most Pure, just like her invincible, infallible father, right? The world will be hers one day. She is perfect, her family is perfect, and nothing will ever go wrong.
(Also, there's no way Kludd and Nyra are letting their precious heirs kill each other, so Gwen's TUPSI is her friend Cinder, a Lesser Sooty. Cinder was born into the Pure Ones, completely buys into their ideology, and is perfectly honored to be a sacrifice.)
("I'm honored that my death will make you purer," Cinder whispers. "I'm so happy to die for you." Gwen can't afford to hesitate. Her father is watching.)
Kludd dies in the AU equivalent of the Battle of the Burning, which completely shatters Gwen's worldview. After his death, she takes on the title of High Tyto, dons his mask and his battle claws, but they don't quite fit. She tries to be strong just like her father, but she slowly starts to crack.
Coryn still has firesight, so he still leaves for the Great Tree after seeing visions in the flames of Kludd's final ceremony. Nyra is deeply upset by this. Gwen is glad her mother belongs only to her again, but also plagued by the idea that maybe her mother would prefer for Coryn to have become the High Tyto instead.
In the wake of her father's death, sometimes Gwen wishes her mother would hug her and hold her like she's a chick again, but she knows that can never happen. She's the High Tyto now. She can't afford to show weakness.
Gwen is a good soldier but not as talented of a commander as her father was (or at least, she believes he was). The Pure Ones lose battle after battle after battle under her command, which only makes her spiral even further. (She puts on a facade of confidence to mask this. It mostly works.)
Nyra and Gwen argue constantly after Gwen becomes the High Tyto. Nyra wishes her daughter would obey her. Gwen wishes her mother would trust her abilities. They're all the other has left and yet they make each other miserable.
("I'm the High Tyto," Gwen says. "I'm the one in charge." Nyra counters by pointing out that she is the one born on the eclipse, the one with the great enchantment. Gwen resents her mother more and more, but she has no one else to rely on.)
She wonders if maybe Nyroc would've been better. Maybe it should've been him after all? Maybe this is all because she wasn't born on the eclipse. Maybe she was the wrong choice, except she can't be wrong because that would mean Cinder died for nothing. She can't be wrong because that would mean her father (who taught her and raised her and believed in her) would be wrong too, and that just isn't possible.
Coryn obtains the Ember of Hoole and becomes king of the Great Tree. Gwen wishes she'd been allowed to kill him in her TUPSI after all.
During their final confrontation, Gwen corners Coryn and tries to kill him--tries to avenge her father, defend the legacy he left her, justify her entire existence--but can't go through with it. (It's all too much. She wishes she was still a hatchling. She wishes her father was still alive. She wishes none of this had ever happened at all.)
Gwen surrenders, but, seized by the need to not disappoint her father even after his death, tries to kill Coryn one more time in an act of betrayal. She almost succeeds, but is stabbed through the back by Twilight.
Gwen dies a bloody death, just like her father. As the world grows dark, she wonders if he's proud of her.
#pinning bc i gwenpost on occasion. look upon my OC ye mighty and despair#what if coryn had a sister and she was the false king to his true savior#what if ur parents put you in The Cycle and you could never escape because doing so would invalidate your entire existence :)#can't draw so i hope you enjoy my notes. i hope you can see my vision#i toyed around with the idea of redeeming gwen and letting her live but i think for thematic purposes she has to die#gwen is too deeply entrenched in the pure ones' ideology for her to be redeemable. but i think in a better world she could be a good kid#gwen's not a good person (owl) but it's largely due to the circumstances of her birth + her parents#she still must die but she never had a chance to be good. that's the vibe i'm going for with her. if that makes sense!!!#my ocs#high tyto guinevere#my posts#guardians of ga'hoole

How do you think bruce would react to a Robin pile situation?
oooh this is a fun thought. i think it depends *entirely* if you're working with a morally stable Bruce or a Bruce who's a little fucked up and dead dove-ish. somehow, i think it's actually more fun if it's a completely stable Bruce bc that adds so much more drama and issues if Bruce is deeply unsettled by the idea. if it was maybe just Jason and Dick or Jason and Tim dating that's sort of understandable. Bruce knows that while he may see them all as his sons (except Steph bc do know Robin pile will *always* include Steph for me and tbh Cass too as an honorary member. they're all going in the pile.) but he understands that doesn't mean they see each other as brothers. he respects the nuanced and complicated relationships scattered across all of the Batfam.
but if all of them are *dating*? or at the very least sleeping together? that raises a lot of logistical red flags. the most obvious one is the age gap of it all- at the biggest gap you have Damian and Dick who are an easy fifteen years apart, meeting when Damian is a kid. not to mention how many of them have tried to kill each other at some point. it shouldn't work and Bruce doesn't like that it does. Bruce has a history of wanting to control the relationships of the Batkids when he disapproves. and so he'd absolutely try to break them up. at first, he paints it purely as a logistical issue. saying it's smartest not to bring feelings into work and that this is dangerous. i think it's especially fun if this happens at a time when Bruce doesn't approve of Steph or Jason so that *also* plays into it, he doesn't want either of them near the ones he currently considers to be his family. he says he wants to protect them and wants to keep them safe. he tries to appeal to who he thinks would be more logical and listen to him the most. first Dick, and then when that doesn't work, Tim. and when neither of them listen, i *do* think Bruce would stoop to the low of trying to break them up by fabricating internal conflict between them, hoping to divide and conquer the weird polycule it's become.
while i don't think Bruce would be jealous in the sense he wants to be included, i *do* think he's wildly dislike the Robins having this close bond that makes them trust each other implicitly more than they trust Bruce. they will defer to each other before him and clearly keep things from him. he'd despise that. it's an inner circle he's not let in on and it makes him lose aspects of control over some of them, especially Damian who's the youngest and his son, who Bruce deserves the most control over. he would drive himself mad about it. at first for genuine reasons over the perceived fucked up nature of the relationship (even when each of them have confirmed that it is entirely consensual and they're happy) and to protect them. but he becomes so bitter over being ignored. they openly prioritize each other over him when the truth comes out because they see no point in hiding it. and i could definitely see Jason gloating about how he's back in the family whether Bruce likes it or not. Bruce would be beyond pissed about it. he's just never recovering. trying to stop them gets nowhere, even if he manages to cause some internal conflict.
eventually, Bruce would be forced to accept it for fear he would lose all of them. but he's *not* going to be happy about it and he keeps making side comments, hoping to get through to one of them eventually. it doesn't work, but he's definitely not going to stop trying. i also think on some level it would just disgust him a little bit in a visceral way, since they're his kids to him and he doesn't like to picture them in that way. esp when Jason or Steph lean heavily into PDA just to fuck with him. ass grabs, cuddling, sloppy kisses, the whole nine yards. Bruce will not have a moment of peace.
#necrotic answerings#robin pile#robincest#batcest#i do think fucked up bruce is also fun#but that answer wuold be more straight forward and expected#just. he creeps on them and tries to join and probably succeeds. the end <3#it's fun but i find it more fun if he's just. grossed out by it#like he's trying so hard to break them up#and he can pretend all he wants but it's purely personal reasons and disliking that he's not in the inner circle#i'm so seirous about including steph in robin pile btw#AND DUKE#let them in on it.#i'd say maps too but i'll be honest i don't know enough about her to. care honestly i'm so sorry#and i dislike helena wayne as a robin (new-52 when i catch your ass) so i don't include her#and i love carrie but i think she should be kept to her own world and not forced into the main one#i dislike seeing “incorrect quotes” that include carrie bc like. why is she there. take her back to her world free her from these shackles.#but gods i adore robin pile#i usually include cass just bc it feels weird not to#it's the same energy as “cass isn't here bc she's in hong kong :) doing hong kong things :)”#like sure technically cass was in hong kong for a lot of the comcis but we all know why.#and cass wasn't a robin but she (and steph) aren't included in a lot of batcest and we all know why.#so i include her. i just think she deserves in on it.#let her fuck her brothers stupid <3#i love the emotional conplexities of robin pile a lot#the smut is good. but so are the feelings of all of these characters are so chained together by this mantle#they just can't escape each other.#it's good shit.

dare I say this patch is better than the entire penacony arc, for me at least. idk, it feels less dialogue-heavy than penacony. the characters are still using more words than they need to, but not to the point where i question if their throat is getting dry. except aglaea, I think 😭 but i think that part was intentional lmao. all in all, definitely left an impression, but a foreboding one.
#hoyoverse#honkai star rail#hsr#like the dialogue didn't feel dragged out#idk if it was just me but it felt like there were just a bit more battles than previous patches#it's probably bc the tb mission took 7 hrs i didn't even notice hours were passing lmao#spent 16 tb fuel to farm trace mats for rmc i have no regrets#my moze watching me farm trace mats and relics for rmc while his relics are all shite: 😒😑#i was genuinely thinking herta wasn't gonna appear in the mission but when se did it felt so damn random 😭#also whew wanna know about ohainon's past so bad ughhhh#theory that march is the other half castorice mentioned purely bc she mentioned she liked to take photos#was thinking of doing the world missions to figure out the lore but then i remembered i have a lot of farming to do ☠️#i WILL clear apocalyptic shadow stage 5 with three stars trust#i feel like destruction is too obvious an answer for the third paths that reside in amphoreus#but also that could be what the writers WANT us to think#i think it has something to do with the black tide#tb lore was not on my bingo card but yk what hell yeah#also march lore#hyv just dangling the tb and march lore in front of me only to pull it back once i reach out for it#GIVE IT TO MEEEEE#i just realized no ruan mei next christmas smh#this is the price we pay#let's hope someone actually gets unalived in amphoreus i feel like the stakes weren't high enough in the previous patches#hyv don't be cowards!#mem is such cute thooo#i was giggling each time she spoke#it's inoue marina WGAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO!?#hsr 3.0 spoilers(?)

"[Elizabeth Woodville's] piety as queen seems to have been broadly conventional for a fifteenth-century royal, encompassing pilgrimages, membership of various fraternities, a particular devotion to her name saint, notable generosity to the Carthusians, and the foundation of a chantry at Westminster after her son was born there. ['On other occasions she supported planned religious foundations in London, […] made generous gifts to Eton College, and petitioned the pope to extend the circumstances in which indulgences could be acquired by observing the feast of the Visitation']. One possible indicator of a more personal, and more sophisticated, thread in her piety is a book of Hours of the Guardian Angel which Sutton and Visser-Fuchs have argued was commissioned for her, very possibly at her request."

#historicwomendaily#elizabeth woodville#my post#friendly reminder that there's nothing indicating that Elizabeth was exceptionally pious or that her piety was 'beyond purely conventional'#(something first claimed by Anne Crawford who simultaneously claimed that Elizabeth was 'grasping and totally lacking in scruple' so...)#EW's piety as queen may have stood out compared to former 15th century predecessors and definitely stood out compared to her husband#but her actions in themselves were not especially novel or 'beyond normal' and by themselves don't indicate unusual piety on her part#As Laynesmith's more recent research observes they seem to have been 'broadly conventional'#A conclusion arrived at Derek Neal as well who also points out that in general queens and elite noblewomen simply had wider means#of 'visible material expression of [their] personal devotion' - and also emphasizes how we should look at their wider circumstances#to understand their actions (eg: the death of Elizabeth's son George in 1479 as a motivating factor)#It's nice that we know a bit about Elizabeth's more personal piety - for eg she seems to have developed an attachment to Westminster Abbey#It's possible her (outward) piety increased across her queenship - she undertook most of her religious projects in later years#But again - none of them indicate the *level* of her piety (ie: they don't indicate that she was beyond conventionally pious)#By 1475 it seems that contemporaries identified Cecily Neville as the most personally devout from the Yorkist family#(though Elizabeth and even Cecily's sons were far greater patrons)#I think people also assume this because of her retirement to Westminster post 1485#which doesn't work because 1) we don't actually know when she retired? as Laynesmith says there is no actual evidence for the traditional#date of 12 February 1487#2) she had very secular reasons for retiring (grief over the death of her children? her lack of dower lands or estates which most other#widows had? her options were very limited; choosing to reside in the abbey is not particularly surprising. it's a massive and unneeded jump#to claim that it was motivated solely by piety (especially because it wasn't a complete 'retirement' in the way people assume it was)#I think historians have a habit of using her piety as a GOTCHA!' point against her vilification - which is a flawed and stupid argument#Elizabeth could be the most pious individual in the world and still be the pantomime villain Ricardians/Yorkists claim she was#They're not mutually exclusive; this line of thinking is useless#I think this also stems from the fact that we simply know very little about Elizabeth as an individual (ie: her hobbies/interests)#certainly far less than we do for other prominent women Margaret of Anjou; Elizabeth of York;; Cecily Neville or Margaret Beaufort#and I think rather than emphasizing that gap of knowledge her historians merely try to fill it up with 'she was pious!'#which is ... an incredibly lackluster take. I think it's better to just acknowledge that we don't know much about this historical figure#ie: I do wish that her piety and patronage was emphasized more yes. but it shouldn't flip too far to the other side either.
